PEACE, PERFECT PEACE...

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.” [John 14:27]

These words were shared by Jesus with his disciples during his final days on earth. He knew what was coming – soon the world would crucify him and the disciples would no doubt be left distraught, grieving the loss of a man they had given up everything to follow – the Messiah who had shown them the way of God.

What is this peace of which Jesus speaks? SHALOM would have been a familiar concept to Jesus and his disciples. Beyond peace between two parties, shalom connotes a deep and everlasting peace in which all is healed and all are free from harm. This same concept is expressed by the Greek word EIRÉNÉ

SHALOM/EIRÉNÉ is perhaps best defined by the concept of wholeness – when essential parts are joined together to form one – one body, one community, one God. Peace is exemplified in God’s own being of three in one - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This is the peace that is extended to us through Christ – a peace that permeates all aspects of being, healing the sin that separates us from God and one another, healing the deep wounds within ourselves. Christ calls us to PEACE - to be one with ourselves, with each other, and with our God.

This blog has been created to offer parcels of peace for weary wanderers who are burdened with worldly woes. Rest awhile and allow yourself to be surrounded by the Peace of Christ, supporting and sustaining you each step of the way. Leave your burdens at the altar and receive the gift of God's presence - parcels of peace to carry with you as you journey forward into the world.

May the peace of Christ be with you always, in all ways,

Pastor Laura
